Films and Socials for the Singapore Turf Club
As we’ve written in an earlier blog post, History Ink was commissioned to delve into the history of the Singapore Turf Club in 2024. In today’s journal article, we take a look at how the Club’s history was used to tell stories in its films and socials.
Our role at History Ink was to provide research services and source media assets for 11 videos showcased at the Singapore Turf Club’s Grand Singapore Gold Cup held on 5 October 2024. These short films paid homage to significant milestones in Singapore’s racing history, and captured key moments in the nation’s horse racing legacy.
Video tributes were produced and animated by the production house CraveFX. They featured a golden horse galloping through a time tunnel, through which historic images and film footage from the Club’s past raced by. The “William Henry Macleod Read Cup” video included archival images of Read, a Scottish merchant who founded the Singapore Sporting Club in 1842, along with illustrations of Farrer Park’s swampy grounds which were later transformed into Singapore’s first racecourse. Other videos highlighted:
Champion horses such as Colonel and Rocket Man
Abdul Mawi, the first local jockey to win the Singapore Gold Cup
Yong Thau Yin - the first local champion trainer
Magdalene Tan - the first local female jockey
We also provided fact checking services, story leads and historic photographs for stories which were featured on the Club’s socials, such as Instagram and LinkedIn, which highlighted significant events, milestones, and personalities.
