CORPORATE HISTORIES

Preserving the history of Asia’s oldest hotel company

Incorporated in 1866 and with a diverse portfolio of HK$49 billion in assets, The Hongkong & Shanghai Hotels (HSH) is the owner and operator of a small number of the world's finest luxury hotels under The Peninsula brand, as well as popular tourism attractions in Hong Kong such as The Peak Tram. HSH has a proud heritage as Asia's oldest hotel company still in operation.

In her role as Collections Manager for The Hong Kong Heritage Project (HKHP), Amelia worked closely with HSH to acquire and source hundreds of historic records for the HKHP archive, which included minute books dating back to the 1880s. She wrote the catalogue for this rare collection and recorded over 30 oral history interviews with former HSH employees.

Together with her HKHP colleagues, Amelia helped writers and film producers use the collection as part of history books, films, and documentaries.
